Shades of Pink
The silhouette of the tree against the light is striking. And that really enables the light to pervade the whole scene with an enigmatic quality. It grips me...there is just something about this urban scene that is inexplicable...a mystery...and that totally resonates with me.
The City Below
The aspect of this piece is awe inspiring...to inform with wonder...to dream. And the cultivation of dreams brings vision...we are designed to look from the heights...to gain a clear perspective. And that clarity of vision empowers...it engenders a single minded determination that cultivates place and position in society...we find our significance...by design.

Backstreet with Blue
The back of the city as opposed to the face of downtown. And the quieter disposition is reflected by the use of the blue. The piece is simply stated without any hint of contrivance from the main actors, just the car parked, a few telegraph poles, and something a little warmer where the light is reflecting in the top right window. The beauty is in the simplicity.

Rainy Day with Blue
Misty rainy scenes are indistinct...they allow the imagination free course to interpret...to dream...And here in this scene the sporty looking mini car is about to hit the main road and anything is possible...

Man in Yellow
All the elements work...they capture something mystical that allows you to dream.

Rainy Day
Lots of water exudes flow...a seamless transition not just between the elements of the painting but also in the execution of the piece. When the paper is awash with pigment it fully engages the faculties and draws on the emotions of the artist to infuse the painting with life. The reward of this scene was worth the risk.

Château
The imposing aspect of the Gothic architecture exudes awe and magnificence. It is the timeless aspect and the mystery that fascinates... that captures the imagination. We are wired for it...to explore...to discover...portrayed in the movement of everyone towards it.

Corfe Castle
There is something about this scene that draws me again and again to paint it. The castle has an aura of timelessness about it in contrast to the contemporary exemplified by the cars and traffic lights. And then the mistiness of the scene blends the two together with an ethereal quality that removes the distinction altogether. The piece just keeps on speaking to me...and always says something new each time I paint it.

Quiet Night in the City
There is a lovely serene quality to this night scene. There is no fuss, just the cars parked up, lit up by the overhead lights with some beaming headlights in the distance. It is quiet, except for the raindrops caught by the light that just add to the stillness, and that quality is further enhanced by the band of cool turquoise.

Misty Road
This piece is like a scene from a black and white film noir, full of atmosphere, mystery and intrigue. Nothing is really defined, but all blends together to give that misty look. It is quiet and serene on the surface, but the mistiness portrays the mystery beneath with all its possibilities...

Misty in the City
Indistinct and enigmatic...that is the visual effect of the mist and rain on the city. And that conveys the quality where the ethereal and the tangible are seamlessly knit together...they are inseparable.
